To carry out all vital functions, living organisms make use of (macro)molecules, such as RNAs and proteins, whose production and regulation are the result of complex interactions within and between cells.

By using models based on complex networks and the theory of dynamical systems and stochastic processes, it is possible to understand the role played by different molecules in protein production and thus connect network structure to function.
